This is the artist residency at ALEF studio, conducted by master printmaker Fawaz Rob. The residency will cover mostly intaglio techniques, concentrating on Aquatint process. This residency is very special and unique, because it will be exploring deep knowledge about aquatint process both in copper plate and zinc plate. Besides analyzing the technicality of copper aquatint process, it will investigate the European aquatint masters from the 18th century, as well as contemporary master printmakers in Asia. This is quite unique. No residency on copper aquatint like this has been conducted in Bangladesh before. The knowledge gathered from this residency is invaluable.

ALEF Studio has one of the richest personal libraries on ‘Intaglio Printmaking’ in Bangladesh. We will explore some important books, significant artists and discuss some fine example of aquatints.
We take a break. No Studio.
Take the plate at home. Work on own pace.
No Studio.
Finish the etching and the plan for the aquatint.
This is a fully funded residency.
All printmaking tools, fine papers, copper plates, acid, aquatint machine, studio space, books to read…everything that is necessary to produce a printmaking art will be provided.
Lunch and snacks will be provided free of charge.
A car will be provided to pick up and drop off from a metro station.
This is indeed, a great opportunity.
No beginners. This is not a tutorial course. Rather, this is a guided residency for artists who already know about the intaglio printmaking. BFA in printmaking is expected, but not required. Grades DO NOT play any role in selection process. Anybody who has worked with zinc, aluminum or copper plate before and made an art in intaglio process is welcomed to join. This is a guided journey for printmakers who want to develop and elevate their personal craftsmanship. Rather than a teacher, Fawaz Rob will be the observer and guide in your own artistic journey.
Write a few lines about you, upload 3/4 images of your work and email to email@alefstudio.org
